Three years ago today, at 10:24 pm, I lost my soulmate, Shelby.  Here is the memorial that normally sits in the living room.   I moved it down so hopefully you can see the actual photos a little…

Lots of stories to be told here.  Left to right, bottom row, frame with two pictures in them, from Bristol, RI and from Somersworth, NH:  The college years.  Small photo is also from Bristol, RI, she was a year old.  The catnip mouse was made special for her by Mrs. Barb Kautz in Buffalo.  She sent it as a Christmas present for Shelby, and it arrived two days after she died.  Photo far right is of Shelby and I in our house on Perley Ave, in Rowley, shortly after James and I married.  The red Rhinestone collar was Shelby’s, she wore it often.

Shelby’s Ash Box was made by Dick Kay, whose business is Pets at Peace.  He creates ash boxes and coffins for animals, and he is a master woodcrafter.  His work is available to the public, if you’d like more info, let me know.  Please note the Cat detail on the knob on the cover.  His work comes from the soul…

Inside the box was Shelby’s Kitten.  She loved and suckled and cared for it her whole 14 and half years of her life.

Top row, two more small pics of her in Bristol, the one w the red and black and white afghan shows her incredible coon tail stripes.

The larger one is a pic of her in our current house, taken by my grandmother, my mom’s mom, when she and my grandpa visited only once.  They were unable to travel much and for them to come see us in our new house was a huge accomplishment.  Gramma Whitcomb loved Shelby and sent me this pic of her, though it was the only one she had taken of Shelby the whole trip.

This sucks…  I miss you so damn much, Girl…

Shelby gave you something so special that you now share with us all. Find peace in that and know that her mission is finished, yours is just beginning!

  • I love the kitten peeking out of the box, hon.
